Affectionate Discourse Oratorio Tangram Podcast: The Definitive Review
It was always inevitable. It was just a matter of time.
Despite each one of my posts going out with a footer claiming that the whole point of Affectionate Discourse is to try and get on gaming podcasts, I have put in a surprisingly low amount of effort into making this happen. In fact I think I asked to be one podcast, ages ago, with an email that on reflection probably made no sense whatsoever. With this abject failure in mind, I resolved that my resolution for 2025 (aside basic survival) was to start recording and releasing my very own podcast. And so, here it is!

Clocking in at a paltry 80 minutes, I can only apologise for how short it is and please rest assured that the six-hour marathons will be arriving as soon as I can be bothered to pay for hosting such things, and have enough time in my life to undertake that kind of editing and review job. That said, I wholly intend to ask people to talk to me for podcast purposes and am secretly aiming to do an episode per month, which seems to be a reasonable plan of action.
I shan’t spoil the content for now, as it’s pretty much all in the descriptive text on the Acast entry. But as mentioned in the audio and, perhaps somewhat coyly in the intro text, if you do harbour perverse desires to talk to me about things PlayStation 2 (or pretty much any other subject) then just get in touch. I’ve even got a gmail! Affectionatediscourse@ gmail dot com, should you care. Otherwise, aggressively critique me and issue coruscating corrections via this hellhole or Bluesky.
Techheads may be interested to note that I intend to do a lot of recording using a Sony ICD-PX440 voice recorder, which seems entirely fitting for a podcast that deliberately fetishes the PlayStation 2. My one is over a decade old, it worked great for my debut episode,1 and it’s somewhat heartwarming that you can still buy it. Hilariously, I keep up the Indefatigable brand loyalty by editing in Acid, which was owned by Sony at one point. Beat that, Audacity lamers, and get fucked. I mean, I could start a rival podcast about the games I had to delete off my Series S2 and edit it in Sound Recorder but that wouldn’t be anywhere near as cool.
Next week I hope to do an actual post on a topic I have a profound, lifelong passion for. It may even include its own audio! Holy shit, right? AUDIO EVERY POST, FUCKERS.3

Which I recorded about eight times, for various reasons. I also have some colossally long monologues I recorded while playing games in a very relaxed state, which I may cobble together to make episodes from as that could genuinely be a) interesting content and b) indulgently hilarious.
I’m still deeply upset about having to dump Hitman 1,2,3 and all the DLC to make room for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Yes, enough to record a podcast about it, but not enough to shell out for a decent HDD add-on.
This is very much a cheque written with my mouth that my ass has little ability to cash.
Loved the first episode. Looking forward to more. BTW I went through 3 Xbox 360 (2 red rings of death) but never told my wife about replacing the second one, as she’d have banned me from wasting the money. Just did the ol’ switcheroo and got away with it.
